Six administrative regions in China, including Guangdong, Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Shandong provinces, as well as Beijing and Shanghai, have reported export growth in the first four months, with an improved structure. 

According to data released by local customs offices, foreign trade in each of the six regions exceeded 1 trillion yuan, with Guangdong hitting 2.5 trillion yuan, followed by Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Shanghai. Accounting for nearly 70 percent of China's total, the six provinces posted foreign trade growth rates higher than the national average of 5.8 percent over the period.

From January to April, Guangdong logged 2.5 trillion yuan in imports and exports, down almost 1 percent from a year ago. Exports rose by 5 percent to 1.7 trillion yuan while imports fell by 11 percent to 841.5 billion yuan.

Local customs said that imports and exports edged down from a year ago because of weakened overseas demand and a high base number from a year earlier.

In the first four months of this year, foreign trade in Jiangsu fell 2 percent to 1.6 trillion yuan but the pace of shrinking slowed from the first quarter. Zhejiang's value of shipments rose by 8 percent to 1.56 trillion yuan, growing faster. Jiangsu's exports even surged to a record high of 1.1 trillion yuan.

Shanghai boosted its foreign trade by 14 percent to 1.4 trillion yuan while Beijing added 7 percent to reach 1.2 trillion yuan, and both rates surpassed the national average of 5.8 percent. And Shandong’s imports and exports rose by 7 percent to 1.03 trillion yuan as collaboration with emerging markets deepened. 

According to data released by the major trade provinces, private enterprises have played a larger role in driving up foreign trade. For example, private firms' total trade in Guangdong reached 1.53 trillion yuan in the first four months, accounting for 60.5 percent of the province's total, official data showed.

In addition, the exports of the "new big three pillars" - electric vehicles, lithium-ion batteries and solar cells - posted remarkable performances over the period. Shanghai saw its exports in these sectors rise by as much as 274 percent year-on-year, according to data released by Shanghai customs.

The optimized structure reflects improved self-reliance in China's foreign trade sector, as export-oriented companies increasingly rely on self-owned brands, home-developed technologies and independent supply chains, experts noted.

六大外貿(mào)重鎮(zhèn)前4月出口全部實(shí)現(xiàn)正增長(zhǎng)，進(jìn)出口總額占全國(guó)近七成。

近日，廣東、江蘇、浙江、上海、北京、山東等外貿(mào)重鎮(zhèn)已公布前4月進(jìn)出口數(shù)據(jù)，以人民幣計(jì)算，四省兩市進(jìn)出口總值均突破萬(wàn)億元，其中，廣東進(jìn)出口總值為2.52萬(wàn)億元，四省兩市進(jìn)出口總值之和約占全國(guó)近七成。

四省兩市進(jìn)出口總值從高到低依次為廣東、江蘇、浙江、上海、北京、山東。

從進(jìn)出口總值增速看，上海、浙江、山東、北京均有不同程度的增長(zhǎng)，且增速均跑贏全國(guó)水平（5.8%）。從出口看，廣東、江蘇、浙江三省出口均突破萬(wàn)億元，六省市出口增速全部為正，北京、上海、山東跑贏全國(guó)水平（10.6%）。

相較于一季度，江蘇、浙江、上海前4月外貿(mào)回暖態(tài)勢(shì)顯著，其中，江蘇的進(jìn)出口總值增速降幅收窄，出口增速由負(fù)轉(zhuǎn)正；浙江的進(jìn)出口總值增速、進(jìn)口增速、出口增速均在一季度為正的基礎(chǔ)上繼續(xù)提升；上海進(jìn)出口總值增速提升10個(gè)百分點(diǎn)，特別是出口增速由負(fù)轉(zhuǎn)正，提升17.7個(gè)百分點(diǎn)。

外貿(mào)第一大省廣東今年1-4月進(jìn)出口2.52萬(wàn)億元，同比下降0.7%。其中，出口1.68萬(wàn)億元，增長(zhǎng)5.4%；進(jìn)口8415億元，下降10.9%。海關(guān)總署廣東分署方面表示，整體數(shù)據(jù)微降，是受到海外需求走弱、高基數(shù)等影響。

另外兩個(gè)外貿(mào)大省江蘇、浙江數(shù)據(jù)顯示外貿(mào)回暖。前4月，江蘇、浙江進(jìn)出口分別為1.62萬(wàn)億元、1.56萬(wàn)億元，增速分別為-2.1%、8.3%，從增速看，兩省前4月數(shù)據(jù)比一季度回暖——江蘇降幅收窄、浙江增速加快（一季度，江蘇、浙江進(jìn)出口增速分別為-6.7%、4.8%）。分開看，江蘇出口1.06萬(wàn)億元，增長(zhǎng)4.4%，進(jìn)口5597.9億元，下降12.3%；浙江出口達(dá)1.15萬(wàn)億元，同比增長(zhǎng)9.8%；進(jìn)口4009.8億元，同比增長(zhǎng)4.0%。其中，江蘇出口創(chuàng)同期歷史新高。

上海、北京今年1-4月進(jìn)出口總值分別為1.39萬(wàn)億元、1.19萬(wàn)億元，增速分別為13.5%、7%，其中，上海出口5586.5億元，增長(zhǎng)16.3%，進(jìn)口8345.7億元，增長(zhǎng)11.6%；北京進(jìn)口9884.7億元，增長(zhǎng)4.6%，出口1984.8億元，增長(zhǎng)21.1%。從增速看，上海、北京的進(jìn)出口總值、進(jìn)口、出口增速均高于全國(guó)水平。

此外，山東省1-4月進(jìn)出口1.03萬(wàn)億元，同比增長(zhǎng)7.2%。其中，出口6214億元，增長(zhǎng)11%；進(jìn)口4123.9億元，增長(zhǎng)1.8%。進(jìn)出口、出口、進(jìn)口增速均高于全國(guó)水平。

計(jì)算發(fā)現(xiàn)，四省兩市前4月進(jìn)出口總值合計(jì)約達(dá)9.31萬(wàn)億元，占全國(guó)（13.32萬(wàn)億元）比重接近七成，體現(xiàn)幾大外貿(mào)強(qiáng)省的實(shí)力。

從六省市數(shù)據(jù)看，民營(yíng)企業(yè)對(duì)外貿(mào)的拉動(dòng)作用明顯。比如，廣東民營(yíng)企業(yè)保持第一大外貿(mào)經(jīng)營(yíng)主體地位。1-4月，該省民營(yíng)企業(yè)進(jìn)出口1.53萬(wàn)億元，增長(zhǎng)6.5%，占進(jìn)出口總值的60.5%，比重提升4.1個(gè)百分點(diǎn)。江蘇1-4月民營(yíng)企業(yè)進(jìn)出口6930.7億元，增長(zhǎng)13.3%，比重同比提升5.8個(gè)百分點(diǎn)至42.8%，拉動(dòng)全省進(jìn)出口增長(zhǎng)4.9個(gè)百分點(diǎn)。浙江1-4月民營(yíng)企業(yè)進(jìn)出口1.24萬(wàn)億元，同比增長(zhǎng)12.7%，占全省外貿(mào)總值的80.0%，拉動(dòng)全省進(jìn)出口增長(zhǎng)9.7個(gè)百分點(diǎn)。山東1-4月民營(yíng)企業(yè)進(jìn)出口7665.8億元，增長(zhǎng)10.4%，占全省進(jìn)出口總值的74.2%，占比提升2.2個(gè)百分點(diǎn)。

此外，“新三樣”出口顯著增長(zhǎng)，尤其以廣東、上海表現(xiàn)亮眼。上海電動(dòng)載人汽車、鋰電池、太陽(yáng)能電池“新三樣”出口分別增長(zhǎng)153.5%、274%、92.2%；廣東分別增長(zhǎng)9.5倍、35.4%、102.4%。

China has unveiled a plan for the coordinated development of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, stating that the region's level of coordinated industrial development will have improved significantly by 2025, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) said on Tuesday. According to the MIIT, the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region has cultivated over 1,100 "little giant" firms as of the end of 2022, accounting for 12 percent of the country's total. Solid progress should be made in developing high-end, smart and green industries in the region, fostering quality enterprises, and building the region into a growth pole for the innovative development of advanced manufacturing and a demonstration zone for coordinated industrial development, the plan said.

Suzhou was the fastest growing Chinese prefecture-level city in terms of population growth last year, thanks to its strong economy. Suzhou’s permanent resident population swelled by 63,200 people last year to 12.9 million, media reported today. This is the second year running that the municipality in Jiangsu province has ranked among the top two, as the city ranked first in terms of GDP among all prefecture-level cities last year with 2.4 trillion yuan and placed sixth nationwide. Chuzhou, Wuhu and Maanshan in Anhui province scored among the top 10, while Qujing and Yuxi in Yunnan province, Ordos in Inner Mongolia and three other cities in central and western China made it in the list.

Hong Kong Chief Executive John Lee on Wednesday expressed deep disappointment and indignation over claims of discrimination against Cathay Pacific passengers who don't speak English. "These disrespectful remarks and actions have hurt the feelings of both Hong Kong and mainland compatriots, and damaged Hong Kong's reputation for being respectful, courteous and inclusive,” Lee said. He also urged Cathay to review its training program and improve its service quality to ensure similar situations would not happen again. Lam also said the carrier will prevent a repeat of similar cases, and that he would lead a cross-departmental working group to conduct a comprehensive review to ensure that its staff provide high-quality services to all passengers. China’s digital economy expanded by 10 percent last year to retain the second-largest position worldwide, according to official data. Chinese firms engaged in digital services added 50.2 trillion yuan to the economy in 2022, according to a report the Cyberspace Administration of China released on Tuesday. Productivity of such firms made up nearly 42 percent of the country’s GDP.

JD.com has started presales for the 618 shopping festival last night, three days ahead of Alibaba's Tmall, and launched a ''double price difference compensation" within the "10-billion-yuan discount" program  in a bid to compete for buyers. During this year’s 618, the items on the discount program will be 10 times than the amount when it was launched in March, according to the Chinese e-commerce giant. A direct discount pricing mechanism is introduced to eliminate confusion in coupon selection, said the company late Monday. The mid-year shopping festival will officially run from May 31 until June 20.

Suning.Com and Alibaba-backed Ele.me have reached a strategic partnership for which the Chinese retail giant will become the first large chain to feature on the takeout platform. The first batch of 600 Suning stores in 150 Chinese cities have landed on Ele.me, the retailer announced yesterday. The over 3,000 products available on the platform, including mobile phones, computers, and household appliances, can be delivered to customers in as little as 30 minutes, it noted. Suning is also launching a series of promotions until May 28, including free delivery fees, subsidies of up to 1,000 yuan for digital products and small home appliances for 1 yuan.

Alibaba Group Holding’s cloud computing arm has started downsizing, an insider said a week after a proposal to spin off the unit for an independent listing, media reported today. The report is aligned with Alibaba Cloud's response that the layoff is a usual practice. The internet giant optimizes its personnel every year and this time the adjustment of around 7 percent of Cloud Intelligence Group's staff started this month after the year-end bonus was paid in late April. Any remaining annual leave and seven-day family care leave will be compensated, the source added.

The gaming arm of Alibaba Group was ordered by a court in Guangzhou to pay video-game giant NetEase 50 million yuan in damages after losing a copyright infringement case. Three Kingdoms Tacticsis an adaptation of NetEase's Infinite Borders, so its developer Alibaba Lingxi Games will have to correct the game content and pay NetEase a 50 million yuan fine, NetEase announced yesterday, citing the ruling of the Guangzhou Internet Court.

Zhang Yiming, co-founder of ByteDance, the Chinese owner of short-video platform TikTok, has recently set up a personal investment fund in Hong Kong. Cool River Venture was founded on May 22, with Zhang serving as director, media learned from Hong Kong’s companies registry. Digital asset and blockchain firm Galaxy is the fund’s sole shareholder. Cool River Venture’s main investment focus is technology-related industries, according to a source.

Chinese stocks fell on Wednesday, extending declines from the previous session as consumer and financial shares slipped. The benchmark Shanghai Composite erased all its gains for the year, diving 1.3 percent, while the Shenzhen Component lost 0.8 percent. Hong Kong shares also declined, with the Hang Seng index sinking 1.6 percent and the TECH index slumped 2 percent.
